ingles the lizard. hilda

NEW PARTS    FOR  OLD.

A lizard darts  through  the underbrush looking for  insect  to eat.as it hunts, a bird atacks, grabbing  the lizard by its long tail. Thinks  look bad for the lizard.
The  tailles lizard scurries  Hawai to safety.
Many lizards have the ability to part with their tails   as  a  means  of self-defense.
Over a period of time they grow new tails.their new tails are very  much like the old ones. This process of regrowth  is called  regeneration.

Missing the point…….

One, two, three, grow! In this series of five photographs (right), a small lizard called a gecko grows a new tail. In the  first Picture, the lizard looks as if  it has had  a terrible accident. It  has lost its tail. Pictures two, three and tour show the tail regenerating. In the  fifth Picture, it looks  as good  as new. The lizard  probable lost its tail while fleeing  from an enemy, such as a bird. Like many lizards, gecko can shed their tails when attacked. Alter  the tail drops off, it lies wriggling on the ground. This motion may confuse the attacked  and give the gecko time to escape.

When the tail falls off, it breaks a way  at a  section of the boby where the bone breaks cleanly. A muscle quickly  contracts to stop any bleeding.

New cells soen begin to grow hear the break.
The neew growth, called a bud, develops into an entirely new tail. In about  eight months to a year, te lizard has a new, full-size tail.

Nuevas celulas comienzan a crecer.
